The laboratory's research is focused in the endoprosthesis field. The strong interdisciplinary orientation within the Orthopaedic Surgery Hospital offers a research close to the clinical daily routine.
The implantation of knee and hip endoprostheses is among the standard operations nowadays. The patients get countinously younger and pre- and post-operativly more activ. The laboratory works close with industrial and research partners to create important knowledge via independent simulator studies. Therefore, basic research and innovative objectives are followed with the aim to enhance the patient's quality of life.

The Laboratory of Biomechanics and Implant Researchhas the following fileds of attention:

Primary stability analysis
Investigation of wear at hip prostheses
Wear of knee implants in a simulator
Wear compilation (gravimetry, CMM)
Ion analysis with hr-ICPMS
Fretting at artificial hip joints
Fatigue testing of artificial joint components
Analysis of kinematics and navigation of knee endoprostheses
Failure analysis of implants
Qualitative expertise of implants with SEM and EDX
